What I Enjoy – Shannon Phillips

Shannon Phillips – COO, The McConnell Foundation

Family: Husband, Ray; son, Andrew (Ellen); daughters, Maggie (Kort) and Holly (Weston); two granddaughters.

How long have you lived in the North State? 40 great years raising a family and enjoying fulfilling work.

What do you enjoy most about living in the North State? My “happy place” is the mountains and by water. I love living in the North State because we are surrounded by both.

You’ve had a front-row seat to so much positive change in the North State. What’s a moment that made you stop and think, “This is why the work matters”?Hands down it would be July 4, 2004: The day the Sundial Bridge opened in Redding.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn you’re really good at? I’m often a cornhole champion among friends and family.

What’s the most memorable place you’ve ever traveled? A friend and I walked the Camino de Santiago from Portugal to Spain. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

If you weren’t doing the work you do now, what alternate career sounds fun? A career as a pediatrician. I would enjoy being with children all day long.

What’s your go-to comfort food?  I have two – depending on my mood. Sourdough bread and butter or a chocolate chip cookie sprinkled with sea salt.

What fictional TV or movie world would you most want to live in for a week? The movie “Eat, Pray, Love.” I am a seeker at heart.

If you could instantly master one completely unrelated skill, what would it be? I wish I could master the guitar, and play any song requested.

What’s one word your closest friends would use to describe you?  Supportive.

If you could have one completely impractical superhero power, what would it be and how would you use it? I would create jars full of “self-love” and pass them out freely.
