What I Enjoy – Karen Simmons

What I Enjoy – December 2025 – Karen Simmons…

Occupation: Banking

Family: Two boys, two daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren (a dog, cat and tortoise, because pets are family too!)

How long have you lived in the North State?
My whole life. My parents moved here when I was 3 years old, and I’ve never ventured anywhere else..

If you had a personal ATM in your office, what would it dispense besides money?
I would like for my own personal ATM machine to dispense trivia. It’s fun learning little tidbits of random information.

What is your most-used emoji?
Smiley face! And usually, the blushy smiley face because it’s cute.

What’s a small thing that instantly makes your day better?
Having random conversations with someone that I don’t know and connecting with them. I enjoy talking with and meeting new people. Getting to know them is a big deal to me.

What’s your guilty pleasure TV show or movie?
“Law & Order,” and any crime show. I’m not a reality show person. I like a good caper!

What’s your favorite way to spend a lazy Sunday?
Hanging out with a good friend. Relaxing with lots of food, binge watching a few shows, maybe doing a puzzle, and going to an antique store or two. I would love to say spending the day with my grandchildren, but if we’re talking lazy, who are we kidding – there is no time for lazy with the little ones!

If you were to win a lifetime supply of something – but it can’t be money – what would it be?
Bacon! That would also have to come with a lifetime supply of Lipitor so that I can maintain low cholesterol levels.

If you could instantly become an expert in anything, what would it be?
I have always had a love for music and dancing, and I do both all the time, but certainly no expert! If I were to pick only one of those, I would like to be able to sing well. Not for fame, just for fun.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
To not be so hard on myself when I make mistakes, as long as you learn from your mistakes, move forward and grow. That is with little things and big things in life. Give myself the grace that I give others.

If you could swap lives with a fictional character for one day, who would it be?
Dr. Dolittle. I’ve never been to England, so that would be interesting to be there. But more importantly, we share a love for animals. I would be able to communicate with the animals and help them by being a veterinarian! Or, Ariel from “The Little Mermaid.” I think it would be wonderful to be able to swim all day and to be friends with the creatures of the ocean. Oh, and I would be able to sing too!
